Why your email lands in spam

SPF, DKIM and DMARC, and what to do when Gmail still refuses.

Updated 27 August 2026

Modern mail providers make three checks before they trust a sender. All three are published for you when your domain uses our nameservers. - **SPF** lists the servers allowed to send for your domain. Only one SPF record may exist; merge, never duplicate. - **DKIM** signs each message. A mismatch means something rewrote the message in transit — usually a forwarding rule. - **DMARC** tells receivers what to do when SPF or DKIM fails. Start at `p=none`, read the reports, then tighten. ### It is all correct and Gmail still filters us Reputation is per-domain and takes days to build. Send to people who reply, avoid bulk campaigns from your main domain in the first fortnight, and never buy a list — one spam complaint per thousand is enough to undo a month of good behaviour.
